“But you are a Chosen Race, a Royal Priesthood, A Holy Nation, A People for God’s Own Possession…”
1 Peter 2:9
The Christian Church in Philadelphia is a congregation of believers who have confessed with our mouths the Lord Jesus and have believed in our hearts (spirits) that God has raised Him (Jesus) from the dead. Therefore, with our hearts (spirits) we have believed unto righteousness and with our mouths have confessed unto salvation. Thus, we have been saved! “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation” (Romans 10:9-10, New American Standard Bible). We also have been baptized into the body of Christ by one Spirit and therefore are both individual and collective members of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:13, 27, NASV), Finally, it is our practice that each new Christian, although not mandatory, should be baptized in water. The New Testament instructs that water baptism will result in, “...a good conscience toward God, through the resurrections of Jesus Christ who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.” (1 Peter 3:18-22, NASV). Moreover, we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, “for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes...for in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith.” (Romans 1:16-17 NASV)
