Rev. Dr. Alexander G. Houston serves as the pastor of The Christian Church in Philadelphia (TCCP) and is the church’s 2nd pastor in her 45-year history. Since his arrival in 2015, in addition to new spirit and ministry opportunities, TCCP has been able to complete over $125,000.00 dollars in capital renovations, successfully navigate a global pandemic, and in 2020, paid off the mortgage of the church building, to God be the glory.
Dr. Houston is a graduate of Colgate University, where he excelled as an All-American student-athlete. He earned the Master of Divinity degree with distinction from Palmer Theological Seminary and in 2015 was conferred the Doctor of Ministry degree from Drew Theological Seminary with a focus in homiletics.
Prior to his pastorate at TCCP, Dr. Houston served for five years as the pastor of the Cohansey Baptist Church in Bridgeton, NJ, where he was the first African American pastor in the church’s 332-year history. During his leadership, the church experienced a rebirth and grew both numerically and spiritually.
A dedicated community leader, Dr. Houston serves as a trustee at the Leon H. Sullivan Charitable Trust where he can advance civil rights, economic justice, and relevant job training.
Finally, he serves as the Head Football Coach at Bensalem High School in Bensalem, PA, further positively impacting the lives of young men. He is married to his lovely wife, the former Erika N. Williams of Memphis, Tennessee. Mrs. Houston is a graduate of Clark-Atlanta University and holds an MBA in finance from Dowling College; furthermore, she is a longstanding member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. They are the proud parents of four beautiful daughters, Alana Michelle, Ava Nicole, Allyson Christina, and Alexis Simone.
